Phillips School District Gets a New SuperintendentSubmitted: 05/13/2013
Story By Melissa Constanzer

PHILLIPS/ ARBOR VITAE - WOODRUFF - Most of us don't like moving, but when the move brings you closer to home with a good job, it gets a little easier.

Rick Morgan will take over as superintendent for the Phillips School District this fall. He brings 15 years of experience with him. He spent the last 5 years as the superintendent at Arbor Vitae - Woodruff School. Morgan looks forward to the move.

"It's a little bit closer to home for me. I was born and raised in Park Falls, Wisconsin. And the other part of the decision is that, here at AV-W (Arbor Vitae-Woodruff), it's not a full-time superintendent's position. I'm taking the opportunity to look for full time employment," says Rick Morgan, new Phillips Superintendent.

One challenge for Morgan will be managing the field referendums at Phillips. But he's dealt with referendums in the past.

"Well, I think anytime there's change in any of our lives, there's a little bit of the nervous feeling about how will things work but I have a lot of confidence in the experience that I've been able to gain here," says Morgan.

Morgan already wants to make a plan that fits Phillips, building budget and staff around it. But the move is still bittersweet.

"Definitely miss it. And if the school community were in a different financial situation, where a full time position would be afforded, I would never leave. It's that great of a school district," says Morgan.

Morgan will officially resign at the school board meeting tomorrow night. Then, the AV-W board must decide who they would like as a new superintendent, and if that position will be full or part-time.
