Marathon Co. jail attacker pleads not guilty by mental disease or defectSubmitted: 05/06/2013
Story By WJFW News Team

WAUSAU - The man accused of attacking two Marathon County Jail officers, putting one in intensive care, faces three felony battery charges. But his lawyers claim he attacked because of a mental disorder.

20-year-old Fredrick Morris was in court today to enter a not guilty plea.

Prosecutors say Morris attacked two guards March 27th when he was supposed to go back into his cell, but refused.

Next for Morris, a doctor will assess him to determine if he really has a mental disorder. That will likely happen by the next pretrial conference, June 7th. Morris is still in jail on a cash bond.
