Long Lasting Winter Hard on Northwoods RoadsSubmitted: 04/22/2013

ACROSS THE NORTHWOODS - Trying to figure out what winter will throw at us each year can be a tough job, but that's just what the County Highway Commissions try to do. Northwoods counties are running low on salt and sand supplies as winter slowly turns into spring.

Jerry Jagmin is the Lincoln County Highway Commissioner. He says the long winter has been hard on their supplies, employees, and budget. Jagmin already plans to cut some paving projects this summer to balance the budget.

The big concern is whether or not more supplies need to be ordered for early snows in Fall. Other counties feeling the pinch are Vilas County and Langlade County. Langlade had to order more salt and sand for the first time in 5 years.

Oneida and Iron Counties are still doing well, but their supplies are lower than usual for this time of year.
