Candlelight Vigil Kicks Off Sexual Assault Awareness MonthSubmitted: 04/04/2013
Story By Lex Gray

RHINELANDER - Thursday kicked off Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Survivors were honored with a candlelight vigil in Stevensport Square in Rhinelander.

Speakers read stories written by survivors and had a moment of silence to remember those who are still healing.

The Tri-County Council on Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault helped 89 survivors last year.

This April, the council will host awareness events like Denim Day and the Chalk Walk.

This year's theme is "It's Time to Talk About It."

It's meant to encourage parents to start talking to their kids early about sexual development and appropriate behavior.
