Conover Snowboarder to compete at Nationals
CONOVER - Jake Van Bree of Conover got quite a surprise on Monday. The 17-year old - who loves snowboarding - found out he qualified for this weekend's Snowboarding National Championships.

Van Bree won the slope style competition in two events earlier this year. Generally you need three events to qualify.

However, he earned enough points in the USA Snowboarding Association. Van Bree left this morning for Colorado. That's where the event takes place.

He's competing in the 17-18 year old division. He's excited to compete against some of the nation's best.

"My mom called and told me I made it," explains Van Bree. "I just started freaking out. I don't go into a contest expecting to win or place the best that I can. I just go in to have fun."

MERRILL - As soon as two days after police found 55-year-old Kevin Monroe dead in a Merrill home in January 2016, they started treating the death as a homicide.

But for the next year and a half, no one was charged in the case.

That changed on Friday, when the county prosecutor charged Monroe's 21-year-old son, Tyler, with his father's murder.
