Raising Money for Honor Flight Veteran
MINOCQUA - Travel costs continue to skyrocket, even for people going on the honor flight.

That's why a couple of young girls from Woodruff are asking for your help to raise money to send a veteran on the trip of a lifetime.

Their goal is to raise one thousand five hundred dollars for a veteran and his wife.

Alexis Fieck says the veteran didn't have enough money for both himself and his wife to go on the trip.

"He's just a really nice guy and he's always been there for people and it's time for us to give back to him." bake sale organizer, Alexis Fieck.

The girls already received a generous anonymous donation of four hundred dollars.

"I didn't think we'd go this far," said bake sale participant, Lacey Wickline.

"I thought it would be a typical bake sale where we get the money and give it to him, but I think it's really cool that we're doing this."

The girls are keeping the veterans name a secret because they want to surprise him when they've raised enough money.

If you would like to make a donation, you can contact the girls homeroom teacher at Arbor Vitae-Woodruff School, Joan Mestelle, at 715-356-3282 extension 313.

MERRILL - Working on a berry farm takes a lot of patience.

"I've been doing it for over 30 years and seems like there's never a year that is the same," said Engleberry Farm owner Michael Matushak.

Driving down highway 107 in Merrill you'll come across six acres of strawberries fields.

But walking through the strawberry fields, you won't find one berry in sight.

"The year is late to start. We are about ten days late," said Matushak.

This year's long, late season snow pushed back the strawberry season.

The federal government planned to spend $1.5 million to help give rural parts of the county broadband internet access. It was part of Frontier Communications' agreement to accept $283 million for broadband expansion nationwide.

But then, the contractors, equipment, and better internet were slow to arrive.

Now, Frontier is finally at work, but plenty of people are still waiting anxiously for their high-speed connection.
