EAGLE RIVER - There's still a couple feet of snow on the ground, so thank goodness for indoor track and field. Hundreds of athletes kicked off their spring break competing at Northland Pines.

On the boys side the home team had a great showing. In the 200 meter hurdles, Pines Senior Evan Hartwig crossed the finish first winning by just .01 hundreths of a second.

Eagles Senior Devin Sauvola outran the competition taking the top spot in the 800 meter run.

In Pole Vault, Rhinelander's Vince Berry tied his best height ever winning the event with a jump of 12 feet 6 inches.

Team scores for the boys, D.C. Everest was first, Northland Pines second and Rhinelander third.

For the girls, Wabeno's Miranda Tarlton outlasted the other runners in the 800 meter run.

In the 200 meter hurdles, D.C. Everest's Faith Eisch came across first in 33.59 seconds.

And in the girls high jump, there was a 4 way tie for first. So they had a jump off at 5 feet and Chequamegon's Michelle Homann cleared the bar for the win.

In team scores for the girls DC. Everest came in first, Chequamegon second and Northland Pines third.

A parent on Wisconsin waters jumps in to try to rescue their child, who is in the water without a life jacket. But the parent, also not wearing a personal floatation device (PFD), drowns, even if the child survives.

It happened in July on Shawano Lake in Shawano County, and on Minocqua Lake a few years ago.
