Wisconsin Democrats propose new gun legislationSubmitted: 03/21/2013
Story By The Associated Press

MADISON - Wisconsin Democrats want to make it harder to buy guns without a background check. Their proposal would cover transactions at gun shows, flea markets, or between individual owners.

Right now, state law doesn't regulate private transactions.

Three Democrats announced the proposal at a Capitol news conference today. It's been five months since an October shooting where a man killed his wife and two others at a Brookfield spa.

That man used an illegally purchased gun.

The brother of one of the victims appeared at the news conference to speak in favor of the legislation.

The proposal probably won't pass the GOP-controlled Legislature.
