MERRILL - The Northwoods could soon have a brand new hiking and cross country ski trail.

The City of Merrill wants to build a two-mile trail through the city forest.

They've applied for a $50,000 grant from the DNR to help with the project.

If approved, Merrill would use the grant money plus city timber harvest money to build the trail.

Merrill's city forest is actually located 12 miles northeast of the city, in the Town of Schley.

The proposed trail would also connect to the trail network at adjacent Prairie Dell County Park.
