MERRILL - The Northwoods could soon have a brand new hiking and cross country ski trail.

The City of Merrill wants to build a two-mile trail through the city forest.

They've applied for a $50,000 grant from the DNR to help with the project.

If approved, Merrill would use the grant money plus city timber harvest money to build the trail.

Merrill's city forest is actually located 12 miles northeast of the city, in the Town of Schley.

The proposed trail would also connect to the trail network at adjacent Prairie Dell County Park.

MEDFORD - A man died in a motorcycle accident after the bike flipped in Taylor County early Sunday morning.

39-year-old Anthony Ostrowski from Tony, Wisconsin was heading north on County Highway Q near County Highway M in the town of Medford.

The driver didn't stop at a stop sign and went into a ditch. He then hit two signs and flipped over before the motorcycle stopped.

MERRILL - Firefighters quickly put out a grass fire near Merrill Saturday afternoon. The Merrill Fire Department got a report of a grass fire threatening two homes in the Town of Scott near Merrill around 1:00pm.

About a half an acre was on fire with one to two foot flames. Winds were light at the time of the fire.
