MOLE LAKE - A winding country road through three northern Wisconsin counties could soon have state recognition.

The Northwoods Niijii group wants to make part of State Highway 55 the newest Scenic Byway.

The target area is between Keshena in Menominee County and the Upper Peninsula state line.

The group wants that roadway to become the fifth byway in the state.

A byway designation would highlight the natural beauty and attractions along the road.

The project is in the first steps of being reviewed by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
