State Senate Scholar Program taking applicantsSubmitted: 02/26/2013

STATEWIDE - High schoolers hoping to have a career in politics can join in the process first-hand in Madison this spring.

State Senators are now accepting applications from juniors and seniors for the Senate Scholar Program.

It's a week-long program held at the Capitol in Madison.

Students will get to meet with legislative staff, the Governor's staff, a Supreme Court justice, the media and more.

Scholars will also get to staff a real Senate floor session. One student from each Senate district will be chosen.

Applications are due March 1st.

Forty-seven-year-old Luann Beckman was found dead in the woods in Phelps on May 17, and investigators are still looking for help.

EAGLE RIVER - A motorcycle rider was airlifted from Vilas County after colliding with a car Thursday morning.

That collision happened around 8:30 a.m. on Highway 70 in front of Nobbes North Gas Station east of Eagle River.

PHILLIPS - An 82-year-old man from the Phillips area died after his kayak overturned in Price County.

An emergency call came into the Price County Sheriff's Department just before 4 p.m. Wednesday.

A kayaker reported that another kayak had overturned on the Elk River about 4 miles east of Phillips.

The report was that the man was out of the kayak but still in the water.
