EAGLE RIVER - What proved to be a long night in the end meant no changes for the Northland Pines boys basketball team.

The Northland Pines School Board was considering replacing eight-year head coach Ryan Clark. Clark has won just 26 games in the last seven years.

Nearly 70 people attended Monday night's meeting. Among those in attendance - former Lakeland coach Ted Voigt. Medford head coach Ron Lien was also there in support of Clark.

Only one person spoke at the meeting against bringing back Clark.

After the public addressed the board for over an hour, a closed-door session was held. It lasted around three hours. Clark's future, along with other items on the agenda were discussed.

When the meeting was opened back to the public, Clark's contract as coach was renewed. The vote was 6-1. The renewal is for one-year with stipulations to be added at a future date.

EAGLE RIVER - Some local students could win state and national awards by taking a math exam.

Students at Northland Pines High School will take the Trig-Star Exam in March.

The exam tests students on trigonometry they've learned in high school.

Students need to be able to apply that knowledge to real life situations as if they're a land surveyor.

"Land surveying in itself is a basis for a lot of things in our country," says Vilas County Land Information/Mapping Department GIS Technician Tony Jones. "It's a chance to work outside, it's a chance to work with your hands, it's also a professional level position. You get to work with mathematics, and architecture, and history, and law."
