THE NORTHWOODS - Each week, we like to crown our own champion. Here are the latest nominees for the "Newswatch 12 Player of the Week."

NOMINEE 1

In boys basketball, Crandon's Kory Kincaid scored his 1,000th point in a win over Elcho. The junior scored 24 points in the victory.

NOMINEE 2

Also in boys hoops, Kris Gallagher of White Lake had a rare quadruple-double against Three Lakes. 25 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists, and 10 blocks.

NOMINEE 3

At the State Alpine and Snowbord championships, Rhinelander's Emily Babcock was the overall individual state champion. She also helped the Hodags win their first state snowboarding title.

NOMINEE 4

And in boys hockey, Goalie Jacob Stephan faced 18 shots and made 17 saves for Northland Pines. The Eagles knocking off Mosinee.

Trinity Lutheran Grade School makes sure its students know the importance of crosswalk safety. 

"Once they're outside, they're usually pretty good," said Jeff Holt, a teacher and the school's safety patrol advisor. "Again, understanding how important it is following the safety rules. They see what could potentially happen if they don't."
