Three Local Districts Go to Referendum Election Submitted: 02/18/2013

RHINELANDER, THREE LAKES, NORTHLAND PINES - Tuesday, three local school districts will ask whether you'll support them by raising your property taxes.

Rhinelander, Three Lakes and Northland Pines school districts are headed for a referendum election.

Rhinelander is asking for $4 million per year through 2016.

Without that money, some electives, activities, and charter schools will be cut.

Three Lakes is asking for $2.34 million per year through 2018.

If that referendum doesn't pass, Northland Pines or Rhinelander will likely absorb the district, meaning taxes will probably go up no matter what.

Northland Pines wants $2.7 million per year through 2016 to maintain technology and other district programs.

The distict hasn't outlined what cuts they would have to make.

Polls are open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
