LA CROSSE - Shredding, carving, basically tearing up the hill... that's what the Hodag snowboarding team did at the state championships.

The Rhinelander girls' board team finished off a dominant weekend in La Crosse this afternoon; today they competed in giant slalom.

The Hodags took five of the top seven positions. Leading the pack, Emily Babcock finished second on the day and became the second Rhinelander girl to win the state title. Sister Sarah Babcock was third Sunday and finished third in the state. And the ladies took home the team title for the first time, finishing with 37 points. The other team members are Katarina Kolpack, Kelsie Prahl and Claire Hjelle.

The Rhinelander boys' board team finished seventh overall. Charlie Oleinik was the top Hodag taking 7th place.

D.C. Everest also had a couple boarders on the podium. Olivia Wendt took 2nd place overall and David Wilke finished in 3rd.

The Hodag boys' downhill team took the hill today in giant slalom. They posted six clean runs and the top finishers were Eli Simon in 35th and Carter Olson in 37th.

Eric Stein out of Wausau East also had his first run finishing in 17th.

The state ski competition will wrap up with slalom and super-G Monday.
