Gov. Walker planning $30 million for mental health programsSubmitted: 02/06/2013
Story By The Associated Press

MADISON - Gov. Scott Walker says his upcoming budget proposal will include $30 million for mental health programs in Wisconsin.

Walker said Wednesday the funding will help state and local governments expand services to individuals living with mental illness.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services provides counties with state and federal funding and policy direction. Each county develops its own programs tailored to meet the needs of its residents.

Among the programs Walker wants to fund in his budget include an expansion of Comprehensive Community Services, which targets community-based care for adults and children with severe mental illness.

The proposal would also establish an Office of Children's Mental Health. It would be focused on ensuring that programs and services are best meeting the needs of children throughout the state.
