Young Student Does the Right Thing Submitted: 02/01/2013

TOMAHAWK - Parents preach to their kids, honesty is the best policy. One fourth grader at Tomahawk Elementary listened. Nine year old Payton Bonce spoke up in a Math competition when he thought the score was wrong.

"She was announcing the fifth grade and I told her that my scores were wrong. So they went back and checked it and I came in fourth place, not third," said Payton Bonce.

Payton, being a great math student had actually calculated his score which helped him catch the error. But coming forward and accepting a lower place was no big deal to him.

"Payton really didn't think it was that big of a deal. Payton, his response was its just something that all good people do," says Tomahawk Elementary Principal, Dan McGuire.

Payton's dad wasn't surprised at his son's honesty.

"Well we always say that you got to work for everything that you earn. So we're just glad that he just made the right choice," said Tony Bonce, Payton's father.

The right choice that was easy for Payton to make.

"I didn't want to do the wrong thing," said Payton.

MINOCQUA - Most kids like to spend summer break fishing, camping or just hanging out.

But two Northwoods teenagers want to get right back into school in another country.

But they need help.

Two students at Lakeland Union High School only have 24 days left to meet their $6,000 goal.

Nathan Grebe and Steven Zhang are trying to raise money to join a three week summer camp in Beijing, China.

Antigo Store Sells Powerball Ticket Worth $1 Million Submitted: 05/20/2013

ANTIGO - Somebody in Antigo won $1 million this weekend.

A cashier at Krist Food Mart sold a winning powerball ticket.

But so far, no one has claimed the big prize.

The winning ticket was announced Sunday.

Since then, Krist customers have been asking who won it.

Manager Linda Hemingson said she was surprised to hear the ticket came from her store.

Rhinelander man killed in ATV crash Submitted: 05/20/2013

MERRILL - A Rhinelander man died in an ATV crash in Lincoln County this weekend.

The Sheriff's Office responded to a crash just after 6 Saturday night in the town of Harrison.

49-year old Randy Romenesko appeared to have lost control of his ATV and crashed into a tree. He was taken to Ministry Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say Romenesko was wearing a helmet but wasn't properly secured. Speed may have been a factor, but police believe alcohol was not.

Late Spring Shouldn't Affect Potato Crop Submitted: 05/20/2013

ANTIGO - Most of us waited eagerly for spring so we could start our summer hobbies.

But farmers wait for spring so they can get to work.

John Schroeder runs a potato farm in Antigo.

He says the late spring could mean a bad harvest for crops like alfalfa, but potatoes should be just fine.

"It generally started a little wet and cold, he said. "We were probably three or four days behind planting right now, but we had a good week last week, so we're catching up."
