RHINELANDER - In the Northwoods, the traditional rummage sale season ends when the weather turns cold.

But it's a different story on your computer, where at least three Northwoods online rummage sale pages are going strong.

Chris Hawley and her wife like to go to garage sales in the summer.

To buy and sell, Chris also tried Craigslist, but found it was too hard to use in a rural area.

So instead, she tried the Facebook pages targeted at local online rummage sales.

"I started buying some things on it, and I noticed how easy it was to buy them, so I thought, well, I might as well start selling some things," she says.

She has looked at selling everything from her son's shoes to her boat.

The Rhinelander, Oneida County, and Northwoods online rummage sales have thousands of users.

Anybody can join and use the free service.

Compared to Craigslist, Chris says it's a better option.

"It seems to be a lot faster. It's a smaller audience. A lot of times it's people you end up knowing. You come and meet them, and it's like, hey, I've seen you before," she says.
