Foster Parents Wanted Submitted: 01/26/2013

MINOCQUA - As most parents know, love is the greatest thing you can give a child. The first ever Foster-Rama event focused on bringing love to children without parental guidence.

Saturday at the Waters of Minocqua was an opportunity to learn.

Kate Gardner is the Director of Social Services in the area.
She said Foster-Rama's goal is to inject youth into an aging foster-parenting network.

"A lot of our foster care parents are in their 60's and may soon be out of the foster care business. So what we're trying to do is recruit some new families, and bring them into knowledge as to what they would need to do to become a foster parent."

Trisha Zimmerman is a foster parent in Lac De Flambeau. She became a foster-parent because she wants to give children a fighting chance.

"We see her with her mother. Her mom was addicted to drugs so she was too. So I think there needs to be more community help."

Anu Family Services was Foster-Rama's main sponsor.It's a placement program that serves 75 counties throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota.

ANTIGO - Most of us waited eagerly for spring so we could start our summer hobbies.

But farmers wait for spring so they can get to work.

John Schroeder runs a potato farm in Antigo.

He says the late spring could mean a bad harvest for crops like alfalfa, but potatoes should be just fine.

"It generally started a little wet and cold, he said. "We were probably three or four days behind planting right now, but we had a good week last week, so we're catching up."

Rhinelander man killed in ATV crash Submitted: 05/20/2013

MERRILL - A Rhinelander man died in an ATV crash in Lincoln County this weekend.

The Sheriff's Office responded to a crash just after 6 Saturday night in the town of Harrison.

49-year old Randy Romenesko appeared to have lost control of his ATV and crashed into a tree. He was taken to Ministry Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say Romenesko was wearing a helmet but wasn't properly secured. Speed may have been a factor, but police believe alcohol was not.

A girl claiming to be 15 years old responded to the 24-year-old Ironwood man.

They planned to meet in Minocqua.

That's when Lahti was arrested as part of a statewide internet sex predator sting.

ANTIGO - Somebody in Antigo won $1 million this weekend.

A cashier at Krist Food Mart sold a winning powerball ticket.

But so far, no one has claimed the big prize.

The winning ticket was announced Sunday.

Since then, Krist customers have been asking who won it.

Manager Linda Hemingson said she was surprised to hear the ticket came from her store.
