Lemmens, Hodags defeat Fortier, LakelandSubmitted: 01/08/2013
Story By Joe Dufek

MINOCQUA - For the first time, Rich Fortier faced his former team. Fortier - who coached Rhinelander to a state tournament appearance in 2001 - is in his first season at Lakeland.

Derek Lemmens played for Fortier. Lemmens is in his second season at Rhinelander.

It was the classic former player vs. former coach matchup. Lemmens and the Hodags jumped out to a 13-0 lead late in the first quarter. Lakeland could only get to within seven points twice.

Rhinelander was too much, winning 62-35.

Austin Bowman had a game-high 18 points for the Hodags. Rhinelander is state-ranked and improved to (11-1) overall and (5-0) in the Great Northern Conference.

Lakeland fell to (7-4) overall and (3-2) in GNC play.
