Post Office Volume Skyrockets Submitted: 12/04/2012

RHINELANDER - You should plan ahead in the coming weeks.

Early December is when the Post Office gets especially busy.

The Christmas holiday is the busiest time of the year for shipping.

This year, the timing of the season allows gift givers a little more breathing room.

"Right after that Thanksgiving holiday is when people start pushing stuff out, so the fact that it was a little earlier helped. The volume has been overwhelmingly increased," says Rhinelander Postmaster Andrew Turek.

There's less than a week left if you want to get a package overseas by Christmas.

That cutoff is next Monday.

But if you're procrastinating while shipping here in the United States, there's one drop-dead date to remember.

"December 22nd. That's our premier product, express mail, get it in here, get it out by the 22nd, and it will be there by Christmas," Turek says.

Rhinelander's post office has an automatic machine for many functions without waiting in line.
