Grant Helps Revitalize AntigoSubmitted: 11/14/2012

RHINELANDER - An old gas station on a busy street in Antigo has stood vacant for the 8 years. But now, its future is looking up, due to a $15,000 grant to the city from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.

The grant will help to remove gasoline storage tanks and make sure there's no contamination.

"A local businessman bought the property, he's cleaning it up. He's done a lot of remodeling on the building already. Last up is to get the storage tanks out so it can be rented out as a retail center," said Kaye Matucheski the Antigo Clerk and Treasurer.

The WEDC has been under pressure in recent weeks after losing track of millions of dollars in loans, but Antigo says they've gotten money from the corporation several times with no problems.

"We've been working strongly on revitalizing our downtown, and this is right off the downtown, right on Highway 45, and this has been a blighted property for several years, so it will be really nice to have it cleaned up and ready to go," said Matucheski.
