RHINELANDER - Rhinelander students are learning a variety of outdoor lessons at the CAVOC center Friday.

One of the lessons deals with Aquatic Invasive Species and the Oneida County AIS Coordinator, Michele Sadauskas, says kids are one of the best resources we have against invasives, "Kids are fantastic. They just want to know and they want to learn. They are just a great role model actually. They're the ones that are going to say, 'Mom and dad, check this out or mom and dad, we should be doing this'."

Sadauskas says part of the lesson incorporates hands on learning so kids can tell the difference between good plants and bad, "What I'm trying to stress here is that we have to make sure. Part of my job, one of the important parts of my job, is to know what is invasive and what isn't. To be able to identify it. So we just want to show there's a lot of good species out there, they're not all just weeds."

Kids also have the chance to study microscopic samples and review underwater footage of invasive species in Northwoods waterways.
