- The vibrant colors of fall will hit their peak in central and northern Wisconsin this week.
What better way to see all the beautiful colors than heading to the highest point in Wausau.
Hues of reds and yellows--as far as the eye can see.
Hundreds of people came out to enjoy the fall foliage from Granite Peak.
For three weekends in the fall, the ski resort opens the chair lift to the public every year.
"Itís beautiful you canít beat it. This is our first time ever. We heard about it on the radio and though it's such a nice afternoon lets go and check it out," said Ed and Gwen Zajac.
This was the first weekend visitors could head to the top of Rib Mountain to enjoy the trees in full fall splendor.
Ed and Gwen waited in line for 30 minutes but they say it was worth the wait.
They said, "We heard about it but never did it before so we thought lets go try it out. Thereís a first for everything."
With todayís summerlike temperatures not even this afternoonís Packers game could people from traveling to Granite Peak.
7-year-old Ryan MacDonald said "I really like the view when you go down there."
8-year-old Phillip Gartmann said he likes looking at the red leaves because they're the brightest.
Dozens of people got off at the top to snap photos and enjoy the view.
For many taking the trip is an annual tradition but for others it was their first time.
"Best time of the year, itís my favorite," said Ed.
"Sounds like it's going to get colder so take advtantage of it while we could," said Ed.
If you missed out this weekend, there's still time to take the Fall Ride.
Rides will be offered during the first two weekend in October as well.
Itís a first come first basis and costs $8.
