- Scott Zeinert, 33, appeared via video from Oneida County jail today.
He's there because he told Minocqua officers he molested an eight-year-old girl.
Assistant district attorney Jodie Bednar-Clemens said Zeinert functions more like an eight- or nine-year-old.
The case goes back to Zeinert's behavior at Torpy Park beach in June and July.
Minocqua police cited Zeinert for lewd and lascivious behavior because he was reportedly lying near girls and masturbating.
That clued Zeinert's mother into a bigger problem.
"When she found out about that, she was concerned because she knew he had a woman with some children living in his apartment building," Bednar-Clemens
said. "So she went and talked to the family and found out that there was some inappropriate touching going on. When that happened, she took her son to the police department and said "You tell these officers what you've been doing," and he did."
Zeinert had been staying at the home of the eight-year-old girl on August 4.
The report says he crawled into her room, masturbated, and then molested her above her clothes.
Officers interviewed the girl, who said Zeinert had sexually touched her three other times.
Zeinert faces four counts of first degree sexual assault.
But Bednar-Clemens hopes the punishment doesn't extend to his family.
"I hope that this man's parents aren't ostracized. They did everything they could to protect the community. Their son isn't a monster. He's a young man with some serious problems, and we're going to deal with that," she said. "Whatever we do, we're going to make sure this never happens again That's our goal and that's my pledge, we'll make sure it never happens again and we're going to make sure the victim and the other children in the community are protected."
Each of those counts comes with a maximum of 60 years in prison.
Zeinert is due in court again on Wednesday, September 5.
His attorney, Gary Cirilli, didn't want to talk about the case yet.
