Meet the New Red Robins Submitted: 08/16/2012
ANTIGO - They've been a football force for generations.

But legal issues in the last nine months threatened that reputation.

Last night, Antigo's Grid Iron Club hosted their annual "Meet the Robins" fundraiser, introducing the team to the community and asking for their support after a tough year.

Former head coach John Lund resigned after being charged in a district-wide marijuana bust.

This year, Matt Weberpal is taking over.

"High expectations for players, coaches, everyone that's involved with the program. We represent the school. Everyone's looking to see, how are we going to respond to everything that happened?" Weberpal said. "These kids all stuck with it, they worked out through the off-season and they didn't run away when things were tough. They stuck together, they came out this summer for workouts. They're ready to show people that we forgot about that, that's not what Antigo's about, and we're going to show them what we're really all about."

Weberpal will be pushing higher grades and more community involvement from players.

In return, the community is sticking by the team.

"I think a lot of people in town want to put the past behind us, make a fresh start, and this is a good way for the community to get out and support everybody and give the coaching staff a vote of confidence and let them know they're behind them," said Grid Iron Club president Joel Nowinsky.

The community is also putting its money behind its team.

The club expects to raise over $3,500 at Meet the Robins.

RHINELANDER - Thousands lost power in the northwoods, thanks to heavy storms last night.

Wisconsin Public service says 5-thousand customers were without electricity right after the storm yesterday.

2-thousand were still out early this morning, but almost everyone should have service back now.

The Rhinelander area was hardest hit.

Local Reps Discuss Budget Submitted: 06/17/2013

WAUSAU - The General Assembly takes up the budget Tuesday. Monday, some local representatives and school officials talked to the public about why they believe the budget will hurt schools.

Democratic representatives Mandy Wright and Katrina Shankland spoke in Wausau today.

Shankland, who represents Stevens Point, stated, "In the last session, Republicans took over 1.6 billion dollars from our public education. They robbed our students of $550 in aid per student. And in this budget, they only return $150. That simply is not acceptable."

ST. GERMAIN - Doctors don't know why they're diagnosing more and more children with autism. It’s hard to know what therapy works best for each child.

Today at Camp AweSum in St. Germain, kids on the Autism Spectrum got a chance to interact with horses.

"I saw him smiling up there, just kind of spontaneously. I think the horse kinda shook and he thought that was kinda funny," said Becky Howell-Adams, the mother of a 9 year old with autism.

For some autistic children smiles are hard to come by. Making a connection like that people or animals is special.

Rhinelander School Board approves technology purchase Submitted: 06/17/2013

RHINELANDER - You can find a new smartphone, tablet or computer out every day.

That’s why school districts struggle to keep up with new technology.

The school district of Rhinelander realized that back in 1996.

That's when the community passed a technology referendum.

It gives the district $600,000 a year to spend on technology.

The board unanimously approved the motion to purchase new laptops, desktop computers and chrome books Monday night.

SUGAR CAMP - You can drive an ATV through practically anything; Snow, mud, water and soon, on Sugar Camp's roads.

Monday, the Sugar Camp Town Board decided to allow ATVs on its roads.

All ATV drivers must wear helmets and license their vehicles.

But even with those rules, some residents still think ATVs on the roads will be dangerous.

MERRILL - Police now call a man who simply ran away from his probation officer armed and extremely dangerous.

36-year-old Christopher Meindel has been on the run for just more than a month.

He's listed as 5 foot 10 and 170 pounds.

He has multiple tattoos on both arms.

Meindel was convicted of making and selling meth.
