RHINELANDER - Today is the beginning of a new era in Branch II of the Oneida County Circuit Court. A long campaign, weeks of mentoring and months of training, all led up to today. This afternoon the man who was Judge-elect, is now Judge Bloom.

Today's swearing in was standing room only. Judge Bloom's family, friends and colleagues packed the Branch II courtroom. At least ten judges from surrounding counties, and Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Roggensack, watched as Bloom took his oath.

Bloom thanked the many people who contributed to his career and campaign, with special thanks to his family.

Bloom says the training resources here in District 9 are better than other counties. Some new judges only get a few days of orientation; he got four weeks.

"The mentoring process was essential. It was a situation where I was able, without a lot of pressure, to be able to observe judges in action and learn from them. So the mentoring process has made my comfort level expand a lot. And it's made the transition that I'm about to do, I'm sure, much easier," says Bloom.

With his first full week behind him, Bloom says he's looking forward to the daily challenges.

"I think I'm going to enjoy it. I think I'm eventually going to settle into a good rhythm of doing the work. It's going to be daunting taking over the responsibility but I'm up for it," says Bloom.

Judge Bloom's departure from the District Attorney's office leaves the DA seat open. Assistant District Attorney Scott Moller, Mike Schiek and Mike Fugel are running. The primary between Schiek and Fugel is coming up on August 14th.
