Gas Prices Spike Throughout Northwoods Submitted: 08/02/2012

RHINELANDER - Take a look around...gas prices have spiked everywhere.

Area gas station owners told us most went up 20 cents overnight, making it a 50 cent increase in just a month.

We went to the website gasbuddy.com to see what's happened in the last 24 hours.

The state's average price is $3.75. That's 20 cents higher than the national average.

The lowest price in the Northwoods area is in Wausau. The Fleet Farm on Badger Avenue had a price of $3.71 reported recently. Most of the others in town are holding at $3.79.

In Merrill it looks like most are staying at $3.79 for now.

Rhinelander's lowest price is $3.79 at the Marathon on Anderson Street. The rest have all jumped today to $3.99.

In Minocqua, about half are at $3.78 at stations located along Highways 51 and 70. But prices there are as high as $3.99 at stations in the same area.

The worst prices are in Eagle River. Nearly every station reported in the last 24 hours is at $3.99. One is at $4.09; as of right now the highest in the area.

WAUSAU - A Wausau high school will go green to save money and teach students about energy conservation.

New solar panels will sit on top of the roof.

It will save Newman High School approximately $400 a year.

The W-P-S foundation donated the system as part of the SolarWise for school program.

It's an educational experience for the kids as well.

Wednesday at the Three Lakes Library, she taught kids about different types of soil.

Medford man searches for photo of every Vietnam death from Wisconsin Submitted: 06/19/2013

MEDFORD - “Our goal is to find them all," says Bryce Kelley.

Kelley, a Medford resident, wants to find a picture of every Wisconsin soldier killed in Vietnam.

“I know that I will continue to work, and I have enlisted the help of many others that will continue to work until we find them all," he says.

Nearly 1,200 Wisconsinites’ names are etched on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington.

USDA Merrill Service Center Relocates Submitted: 06/19/2013

MERRILL - Farmers in Lincoln and Langlade Counties may need to make a longer drive or call a different office for USDA services.

The Merrill Service Center will be temporarily split up between Rhinelander, Wausau, and Medford.

The Farm Service Agency will move to the Wausau Service Center and the Natural Resources Conservation Service will be relocated to the Rhinelander and Medford Centers.

These moves will last until further notice.

Woman with Alzheimer's found safe Submitted: 06/19/2013

WOOD COUNTY - A barking dog led searchers to a Wood County woman with Alzheimer's disease.

Just before five last night, a call came in saying the woman was missing from the 46-hundred block of Lynn Hill Road in Port Edwards township.

The woman was enrolled in the "Project Lifesaver" program, and was wearing a transmitter.

However, the battery had apparently gone dead, so searchers could not find her that way.

Woman killed when ATV goes over cliff Submitted: 06/19/2013

SAXON - A woman died when an ATV sailed over a cliff in Iron county.

Deputies got the call around seven last night about the ATV crash near Harbor Drive in Saxon.

The ATV did not make it around a corner on Harbor drive and traveled over the cliff, coming to rest on the beach.

A 42 year old woman who was a passenger on the ATV was dead at the scene.

Her 44 year old husband had been driving, and suffered severe injuries.

Merrill City Council plans to at Tomahawk to Municipal Court cases Submitted: 06/19/2013

MERRILL - We want our city officials to save money and resources where they can.

In Merrill, the city council is trying to do that with their municipal court.

The new plan means if you get a speeding ticket or citation for disorderly conduct in tomahawk, you'd have to go to court in Merrill.

The timetable is quicker for getting in and out of the municipal court than getting through Lincoln County Circuit Court.

The discussion came up when Merrill's city staff members decided they need to make a decision whether to continue funding the court.
