Revised Rules Approved to Cut Phosphorus Pollution Submitted: 07/26/2012
MADISON - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has approved Wisconsin's revised rule to curb phosphorus pollution.

Wisconsin's program is aimed at reducing phosphorus levels in the Great Lakes and Wisconsin's inland waters.

Department of Natural Resources Secretary Cathy Stepp says the EPA's approval is ``a great step forward'' in Wisconsin's efforts to reduce phosphorus entering the state's lakes, rivers and streams.

Phosphorus pollution accelerates algae and plant growth.

Wisconsin's program allows permit holders to meet phosphorus discharge requirements through partnerships with others who release phosphorus.

Permit holders can make those arrangements to reduce phosphorus more economically.

Under the new rules, the DNR determines the phosphorus discharge limits based on the condition and quality of a watershed.

Wisconsin first adopted phosphorus water quality standards for lakes, reservoirs, rivers and streams in December 2010.

Massive tornado flattens homes, neighborhoods in Oklahoma Submitted: 05/20/2013

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - A monstrous tornado as much as a mile wide roars through the Oklahoma City suburbs, flattening entire neighborhoods, setting buildings on fire and landing a direct blow on an elementary school.

NBC News reports at least 37 people are confirmed dead as of 7:30 p.m.

The storm laid waste to scores of buildings in Moore, south of the city.

The National Weather Service says it had winds up to 200 mph.

People wearing neon-green vests were joined by residents in the search through rubble. Neighborhoods are flattened and homes blown apart.

Gary Knight with the Oklahoma City Police Department says an elementary school took a direct hit from the mile-wide tornado.

ANTIGO - Somebody in Antigo won $1 million this weekend.

A cashier at Krist Food Mart sold a winning powerball ticket.

But so far, no one has claimed the big prize.

The winning ticket was announced Sunday.

Since then, Krist customers have been asking who won it.

Manager Linda Hemingson said she was surprised to hear the ticket came from her store.
