Former Ho-Chunk Legislator Sentenced for Taking Bribes Submitted: 07/12/2012
MADISON - A former Ho-Chunk Nation legislator has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for bribery.

Prosecutors say Clarence Pettibone had extensive knowledge of a bribery scheme involving contracts awarded by the Ho-Chunk Nation that ran from 2002 to 2009.

They said the overall scheme took in $3 million. Among other things, he was accused of supporting Trinity Financial Group for a $250,000 housing study in exchange for a Pontiac Firebird.

The 53-year-old Black River Falls man pleaded guilty to accepting a bribe in April.

U.S. District Judge William Conley sentenced Pettibone Wednesday and called him a ``corrupt official'' who took multiple bribes.

Conley said Pettibone violated the trust of the Ho-Chunk Nation and that his sentence should send a message that corruption will not be tolerated.

36-year-old Christopher Meindel has been on the run for just more than a month.

He's listed as 5 foot 10 and 170 pounds.

He has multiple tattoos on both arms.

Meindel was convicted of making and selling meth.

WAUSAU - Last June, Kerby Kneiss died after he was beaten to death with a baseball bat.

Prosecutors think Warren Krohn was one of the men who killed Kneiss.

But Krohn's lawyer argues police might not have collected the evidence against him legally.

Krohn's lawyer argued that what he said while police interrogated him shouldn't be used in court. They say he was in police custody - but was not informed of his Miranda Rights.

The school district of Rhinelander realized that back in 1996.

That's when the community passed a technology referendum.

It gives the district $600,000 a year to spend on technology.

The board unanimously approved the motion to purchase new laptops, desktop computers and chrome books Monday night.

ST. GERMAIN - Doctors don't know why they're diagnosing more and more children with autism. It’s hard to know what therapy works best for each child.

Today at Camp AweSum in St. Germain, kids on the Autism Spectrum got a chance to interact with horses.

"I saw him smiling up there, just kind of spontaneously. I think the horse kinda shook and he thought that was kinda funny," said Becky Howell-Adams, the mother of a 9 year old with autism.

For some autistic children smiles are hard to come by. Making a connection like that people or animals is special.
