- UW-Stevens Point head wrestling coach Johnny Johnson has announced eight more talented recruits who plan to attend UW-Stevens Point this fall and compete for the Pointers.
The group includes Bryce Chaney, Steve Chojnacki, Jake Deskins, T.J. Engle, Dan Irwin, Aaron Karlen, Nathaneal Miller, and John Roycraft.
These eight join Mitch Berceau, Kyle McKenzie, Hunter Cardinal, Brady Gartner, Logan Kein, Bill Krull, and Josh Barnett who were already announced and help complete one of the largest recruiting classes in Johnson's 15 years.
Chaney, a graduate of Winneconne High School, was a state qualifier in 2011 at 171 pounds. He was 40-0 and ranked No. 1 in the state after the regional qualifier, but was unable to wrestle at sectionals and state.
Chojnacki, a transfer Marathon County Technical College?, wrestled in high school for StanleyBoyd/Thorp where he was a state qualifier for the Orioles in 2010 at 215 pounds.
Deskins was a two-time state qualifier for Montello High School, finishing sixth at the state meet in 2011 and qualifying again as a heavyweight in 2012.
Engle, a transfer from UW-Eau Claire, wrestled locally for Stevens Point Area Senior High at 215 pounds where he graduated in 2011.
Irwin posted a 74-37 record during his career at Pulaski High School, wrestling at 170 pounds.
Karlen, also intending to transfer to UW-Stevens Point from Marathon County Technical College, was a runner-up at state for Edgar High School in 2011 and finished third in 2010 at 215-pounds.
A transfer from Fox Valley Technical College, Miller wrestled at 152 pounds for Winneconne High School, placing fourth at the state tournament in 2011.
Royrcraft, a graduate of Winneconne High School, was a two-time state qualifier at 120 pounds. He posted a career 147-22 record for the Wolves, wrestling his way to a runner-up finish at state in 2012 and a third-place finish in 2010.
