WISCONSIN - Thursday, Wisconsin reaches the second anniversary of the statewide Smoke-Free Workplace Law.

The state's bars, restaurants and other businesses have been transitioning with the law and 89-percent of Wisconsinites feel it's a healthier atmosphere inside those establishments.

Tavern League of Wisconsin President, Rob Swearingen says these past couple years have caused some of the groups members to shut down,

"Sure, it's been tough. We have lost members because of it. Bars have closed because of it, but it is the law. The overwhelming majority of our taverns are certainly compliant with the law because that's the rule."

Swearingen says Tavern League bars have actually been smoke free for three years because they wanted to make sure their customers transitioned well when the law first took effect, "The whole controversy has kind of subsided. I don't see a repeal of the ban. Last year Governor Walker came out and said that was not on his agenda and we haven't asked for a repeal of the ban."

State health departments celebrate the second anniversary of the law saying 86-percent of patrons now find bars and restaurants more enjoyable with smoke free air.
