Nicolet College to Offer Dental Classes Submitted: 07/02/2012

RHINELANDER - Wisconsin students want to work in dentistry, and the industry needs them.

But there aren't enough schools to train dental hygienists and assistants.

With the creation of a new dentistry program next year, Nicolet College in Rhinelander will help solve that problem.

"The interest is huge. Most of the colleges in the Wisconsin Technical College System have substantial wait lists, so students have been calling since the first inklings of these programs," says Lenore Mangles, the Director of Health Operations at Nicolet.

Nicolet will partner with the Peter Christensen Dental Clinic, which is currently being built in Lac du Flambeau.

The majority of instruction for students will be there.

"Without them, the startup would have been much more difficult. Space is an issue here on campus, so that is really a big plus. I think it will help all the communities," says Mangles.

Dental hygienist and dental assistant classes will start in 2013.

Nicolet will host information sessions throughout July on the programs.

Wisconsin produces most maple syrup since 1992 Submitted: 06/17/2013

MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin's maple syrup producers are having a great year.

A report released Monday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's statistical arm says the state's farmers produced five times as much maple syrup this year as last year and the most since it began keeping track in 1992.

The USDA says Wisconsin produced 265,000 gallons of maple syrup this year.

Last year's season was cut short by early warm weather.

ST. GERMAIN - Doctors don't know why they're diagnosing more and more children with autism. It’s hard to know what therapy works best for each child.

Today at Camp AweSum in St. Germain, kids on the Autism Spectrum got a chance to interact with horses.

"I saw him smiling up there, just kind of spontaneously. I think the horse kinda shook and he thought that was kinda funny," said Becky Howell-Adams, the mother of a 9 year old with autism.

For some autistic children smiles are hard to come by. Making a connection like that people or animals is special.

Helping out that number is Bletsoe's Cheese in Marathon.

Their old fashioned approach to cheese making still proves successful.

Bonnie Bletsoe and her husband David started the business in 1983.

They have a fully operational cheese factory, making cheese, the old way.

It can be even harder if the gym closes early.

But one Northwoods hospital is opening their fitness center 24 hours a day so you can workout out any time.

Langlade Hospital opened the doors to its new fitness center today.

The facility helps patients with rehabilitation.

Judge rules on what evidence can be used in baseball bat murder case Submitted: 06/17/2013

WAUSAU - Last June, Kerby Kneiss died after he was beaten to death with a baseball bat.

Prosecutors think Warren Krohn was one of the men who killed Kneiss.

But Krohn's lawyer argues police might not have collected the evidence against him legally.

Krohn's lawyer argued that what he said while police interrogated him shouldn't be used in court. They say he was in police custody - but was not informed of his Miranda Rights.

SUGAR CAMP - You can drive an ATV through practically anything; Snow, mud, water and soon, on Sugar Camp's roads.

Monday, the Sugar Camp Town Board decided to allow ATVs on its roads.

All ATV drivers must wear helmets and license their vehicles.

But even with those rules, some residents still think ATVs on the roads will be dangerous.
