Ground Search Suspended for Missing Sayner WomanSubmitted: 04/12/2012
Story By Jenn Sullivan

- After a week of searching for Sandra Schinke the Vilas County Sheriff's Department is suspending its ground search in Sayner, according to a press release.

Although, the ground search is ending, authorities are still baffled by Sandra's disappearance.

"It's not very often someone disappears like this," said Vilas County Sheriff Frank Tomlanovich.

Sandra was last seen April 5th, walking along County Highway N in Sayner, where she and her husband live.

Police said her cell phone, house keys and wallet were all in the Schinke's home but when her husband returned from North Dakota, Sandra was now where to be found.

"I'm not saying this is an abduction. But if it were an abduction there would usually be signs of a struggle or something like that. And we don't have any evidence of that what so ever," said Tomlanovich.

The search for Sandra drew in volunteers statewide as well as authorities from St. Louis County Minnesota and Marenisco Michigan.

Tomlanovich said. "The efforts put forward by volunteers from the local fire departments...it's really been a tremendous effort."

Friday, the Vilas County Sheriff's Department will continue a water search in Plum Lake.

Family members continue to spread the word of her disappearance.

Saturday they'll hold a Support Vigil at the Community Center in St. Germain.

Jim Schinke, her husband, told Newswatch 12 he hopes to get a thousand attendees at the event because that's a thousand more people who can aid in the search.
