MINOCQUA - Earth day may technically be over, but that's not stopping an area business from unveiling their green upgrades.
It's out with the old and in with green at Trig's in Minocqua.
"These are our refrigerator doors that we just recently replaced."
New energy efficient refrigerators and freezers that Trig's President and CEO Lee Guenther says will help the environment.
He says, "These doors for example have no heaters in them, it also has a more efficient motor in it."
Focus on Energy Advisor Bobbi Rongstad worked with Trig's on the upgrades. She says, "They don't need a lot of heat in the door to keep them from frosting up, because the glass is so much better insulated."
Trig's also put in 150 compact flourescent light bulbs and switched from tile to a buffed concrete floor.
Guenther says, "We've eliminated all the chemicals with all the buffing on the tile and so forth, so we have no chemical usage there."
All this translates into energy savings.
He adds, "Roughly $33,000 at our current rate."
By replacing these refrigerator door, Trig's will save 434,000 kilowatt hours of energy, that's equivalent to taking 73 cars off the road.
Guenther tells Newswatch 12, "There's more changes coming as we move ahead."
He says in the next 60 days they'll switch to energy efficient LED lights over the produce section.
Rongstad says, "Not only does the new product use less energy, but it doesn't generate as much heat and when you're trying to maintain produce quality you don't want to be cooking your produce with the lights."
Green savings for both Trig's and the environment.
Guenther says they also make upgrades to Tula's Cafe.
He says they replaced old appliances in the kitchen with new energy efficient ones.
Guenther adds, with all their green savings will be passed on to their customers.
