WIFC Final Results Submitted: 03/14/2010
RHINELANDER - The World Ice Fishing Championship was officially over Sunday, and we've got the results!

The United States came in first place with a total of 38.5 points, Poland in second place with 54.5 points, and Russia in third place with 56 points.

Team USA Captain Myron Gilbert of Brooklyn, Michigan, says he made sure his teammates didn't get ahead of themselves before the final day.

He also says the fishing was better yesterday, but it helped to keep a determined attituded, especially since they were fishing the old fashioned way.

"You still gotta hook 'em with a hook and pull 'em in with a line and we're still able to do that. And you'll find 'em on command in strange waters is what we did today. And very important, I'm pretty proud of my teammates."

Gilbert also says the team really bonded this year.

He also says he learned a lot from the other teams about the different equipment they use and their ice fishing techniques.
