RHINELANDER - March is National Red Cross Month.
Thursday in Rhinelander the Northern Tier celebrated with an open house.
Two esteemed guests made a special appearance: 95-year-old World War II Veteran George Wells and 90-year-old Home Service Volunteer Beulah Herrick.
Beulah started working for the Red Cross during wartime in 1942, she says, "If a sailor or an Army man wanted to come home because of a new baby coming, or if someone died, they would go through us and we would see to it that they got home."
Beulah says after the war her husband taught first aid classes for the organization and she would fill in for him from time to time.
The Red Cross honored her today with a special pin in the shape of the organization's famous logo.
Northern Tier Coordinator Michelle Fenske says it's an honor to meet people like Beaulah and George and hear their stories.
