Jake Smith tops 1,000 points Submitted: 12/04/2009
SUPERIOR, WI - Jake Smith is just a junior on the UW-Superior basketball team and he has already reached a milestone by scoring one thousand points.

The Rhinelander native needed just 88 points entering the season to hit one thousand.

Smith scored 30 points in the Yellow Jackets overtime win against UW-River Falls Wednesday night to put him over one thousand.

The junior is averaging 24 points per game and credits hard work in the gym for his success.

"I think a lot of it is getting extra shots in the gym." says UW-Superior junior Jake Smith. "I work with coach Flora twice a week for a half hour or twenty minutes and just get a lot of shots up because in practice you don't get a chance to shoot a whole lot you know. You're working on defense and offense and all of that kind of stuff. I come in the gym a lot and get a lot of extra shots up so in the game I'm making those shots so I can tell it's been paying off for me so I just have to keep doing that."

Smith and his 3-1 UW-Superior Yellow Jackets travel to UW-Platteville for a WIAC game Saturday afternoon.
