- Today is Black Friday and as always, the day after Thanksgiving when stores debut their holiday deals. Everyone was looking for that special gift.
"Whatever we can find, it's basically impulse shopping." Black Friday shopper Lisa Heder from West Bend has family in Lake Tomahawk. She says she enjoys shopping in Minocqua. "Being in the Northwoods, and you kind of see things you don't normally see."
Today, she's shopping for her kids and family members...in a store that didn't change its prices.
"We don't have to reduce them, we keep them as cheap as possible." Mike Mallizzio is the owner of Remember When in Gas Light Square. He's pleased with the crowd and is optimistic about the days to come. "It's been a good year so far, so we expect to have a good day and a good weekend."
He says he sells a lot of ornaments, music boxes and signs. Mallizzio adds he enjoys watching the people. "And when they buy something."
Which is what people were also doing at the Rhinelander Wal-Mart. General Manager Brent Sundby says the average wait was 15 minutes. "There's 40 registers up there so we were able to get people through pretty good."
But since Lisa Heder didn't get up early...She didn't have to wait. "We took our time to get here."
A time to bring in the holidays and carry on a yearly tradition.
Overall, both Brent Sundby and Mike Mallizzio were happy with today's crowd.
They are both looking forward to the upcoming Christmas holiday.
