Governor Doyle Signs Wind Rule Bill

MADISON - Governor Doyle signed a bill Wednesday calling for state regulators to create uniform site regulations for wind farms. The state Public Service Commission's rules on turbine setbacks and height will trump any local ordinances. Wind developers say a patchwork of restrictive local rules has hamstrung their businesses. Doyle says the rules will signal that Wisconsin is open for wind business and will help create jobs.
According to Governor Doyle, "I think the bill that I'm about to sign is something that I fought hard to get passed and it's really going to help with the growth of the wind energy business in Wisconsin." The Governor's global warming task force recommended uniform rules for the state.
