MADISON - Rebates of between $25 and $200 could be available to Wisconsin residents for buying new energy efficient appliances.
The new rebates would be paid for with about $5 million in federal stimulus money. The plan is up for approval on Tuesday by the Legislature's budget committee. If it gives the OK, rebates could start as early as November and run until the money runs out or February 2012, whichever comes first.
Currently, rebates are available for buying qualified water heaters, natural gas boilers and natural gas furnaces.
The new rebates would be extended to clothes washers, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, room air conditioners, oil furnaces and dehumidifiers.
