MADISON - Gov. Jim Doyle says Wisconsin offered a ``very strong'' incentive package to get General Motors to locate subcompact production in Janesville, and says he's deeply disappointed the automaker picked its Orion, Mich. plant for the
work.
General Motors was expected to make an announcement Friday on its choice between Janesville; Orion, Mich. and Spring Hills, Tenn.
But, a person briefed on the decision tells The Associated Press that Michigan has won the high-stakes competition for the next generation of small cars.
Doyle, in a statement, says he doesn't believe Michigan matched Wisconsin in its incentive package.
The governor says he hopes Wisconsin was not used ``to simply leverage more resources for
Michigan.''
