MADISON - Some low-income Wisconsin families can begin applying for an expanded state health insurance program next month.
The BadgerCare Plus Core Plan provides health insurance to uninsured low-income adults with no children. It covers primary and preventive care along with generic drugs. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says it will start accepting applications for the expanded program on June 15. The earliest that benefits would begin is July 15.
The application period was supposed to begin June 1 but was delayed two weeks because of budget uncertainties.
To qualify for the program, an applicant's annual family income can't be more than $21,660 for a single person or $29,140 for a married couple.
