MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin farmers are starting to plant corn
and are making good progress with spring tilling and other crops.
That's according to the latest crop progress report from the National Agricultural Statistics Service.
NASS says much of the corn planted so far is the southwest as farmers in northern and west central Wisconsin are still waiting for the soil to warm up. About 6 percent of the state's corn is planted so far.
NASS says farmers finished about a third of the spring tilling before weekend rains interrupted.
It says nearly 60 percent of the state's oats are planted, while early planted oats are beginning to emerge.
It says potato and pea planting in central Wisconsin are progressing well, too.
