TOWN OF STELLA - Wednesday we told you about the Fire Interruption Technology or FIT 5 equipment the Pine Lake Fire Department bought.
Wednesday night they already had to put it to use--saving one Northwoods families home.
The fire started in the front bedroom of the Moore and Rudloff family home.
Their middle school son was home and smelled smoke--when he saw flames in the bedroom he called 9-1-1.
The Pine Lake Fire Chief brought the department's new FIT 5 fire equipment and threw it into the burning bedroom.
The FIT 5 releases powder into the fire. Every grain of powder absorbs heat--dropping the temperature of the fire up one thousand degrees.
Firefighters from Stella and Pine Lake Fire Departments say Wednesday night the FIT 5 took heat out of the fire and within 15 seconds the fire was practically extinguished.
Bart Tegen is a Captain at the Stella Fire Department. He says, "It was contained to a bedroom, typically with a trailer fire there's not much left of the whole trailer and in this fire we saved two-thirds of the trailer."
Rick Zelechowski is the Assistant Fire Chief at the Pine Lake Fire Department. He says, "The combination of us being able to get here fast enough and have the FIT 5 available, really made a big difference.
Both firefighters say the FIT 5 also saved them water.
In a typical fire five to seven-thousand gallons are used--Wednesday night less than one thousand was used on the mobile home.
Family members didn't want to comment on camera, but say they are extremely grateful for the FIT 5 and for both fire department's efforts Wednesday night.
They are currently staying with other family members.
They did lose all their clothes in the fire, but they are hoping to rebuild the front portion of their home.
