MANITOWOC - A second state lawmaker has said he will
refuse a $2,500 pay raise scheduled to take effect in the upcoming
legislative session.
Sen. Jon Erpenbach said Friday he never accepts midterm pay increases. The Middleton Democrat says he sends the money back to the Senate chief clerk.
Rep. Bob Ziegelbauer has also said he will be returning his raise. The Democrat from Manitowoc says he wants the Legislature to have to vote on any pay raises for elected officials.
Pay hikes are currently approved by the Legislature's eight-member Joint Committee on Employment Relations.
Legislative salaries are scheduled to increase 5.3 percent over two years. The total increase of $2,530 will raise the annual
salary to $49,943.
