CRANDON - The Forest County Potawatomi community is hoping to end domestic violence on reservations one step at a time.
With each stride, there's hope.
Hazel George says, "As people, we all need hope. And this is about hope and healing that women and all people bring together."
"Walk on the Rez" is a way to do just that- while spreading awareness of domestic violence one healing effort and step at a time.
George says, "Healing is when we become aware of ourselves and our needs and of other people who can help us."
Walking to end domestic violence is not just a mission on this reservation, it's an effort for all 11 reservations in Wisconsin.
Marilynn Alloway says, "By tying a feather from each community and praying for those feathers, that's the unity of all the tribes of Wisconsin."
Each feather represents tradition and prayer- carried on the wings of an eagle.
And today a chance for prayer-to heal the community and those hurt by domestic violence.
George says, "When we reach out, we are healed and we become healers."
The event was organized by the Indian Women Circle of Hope and Healing Committee-
Their goal is to reach all 11 tribal reservations in the state in promoting awareness of domestic violence.
