LAND O' LAKES - The water in the Great Lakes region is one of the Midwest's greatest resources.
But it could be at risk.
Peter Annin's book, "The Great Lakes Water Wars", breaks down new legislation that keeps water from being taken out of the Great Lakes with few exceptions.
The auditorium at Conserve School was full of people anxious to hear about the Great Lakes Compact.
Annin discussed the fact that the Northwoods isn't included in the Great Lakes, but the water shortage could effect our lakes and rivers if we don't take action.
Peter Annin says "In a water rich state like Wisconsin, we need to be aware that we're entering an era of increased water tension and that we are going to have to be good stewards of our water."
Annin spent three years studying water tension, and predicts that by 2025 2/3 of the world's population will face water shortages.
He says Wisconsin is one of the most water wealthy states, and this new legislation will hopefully keep it that way.
The legislation is expected to pass sometime this year.
