ANTIGO - During his speech at the Democratic National Convention last night, Governor Doyle introduced Merit Gear in Antigo to the whole country.
Today, employees say it's an honor to be recognized.
Doyle was recently in Antigo and announced $250,000 in tax credits and grants to help with Merit Gear's plans for expansion.
In his speech he told the crowd that he's impressed by Merit Gear's ability to take advantage of the "green movement."
The company is working on expanding its product line to make gears for wind generators.
Company President, Donald Clemins, says he couldn't believe the Governor recognized Merit Gear on a national stage.
Donald Clemins, President of the Merit Gear Corporation, says, "Here we've got a small company, 153 people in Antigo, Wisconsin and we're mentioned on the national news. It's really pretty neat for us. People in our shop are really excited about it."
Clemins says the expansion project will double their operation, create 45 new jobs and save an additional 105 jobs.
