RHINELANDER - As with any community around the country, there are many issues that affect us here in the Northwoods.

From prescription drug abuse to illegal immigration, law enforcement agencies are constantly on the lookout for those trying to break the law.

That's why the Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen is visiting every county in the state to make sure local law enforcement and community leaders have the tools they need to fight crime.


Some of the topics discussed today in Rhinelander include implementing a statewide tracking system for prescriptions drugs, grants for law enforcement and proper resources for state prosecutors.

J.B. Van Hollen, Wisconsin Attorney General, says, "We're coming here to listen to what law enforcement and community leaders want from the state of Wisconsin. I think it's real easy to get down to Madison and forget about what the individual communities need from us and think we have all the answers."

Dan Meyer, R-Eagle River, says, "It gives the Attorney General and myself an idea of what's on the mind of local officials and what they're looking for from the state."

Representative Dan Meyer of Eagle River helped organize today's roundtable.

During the meeting, the Attorney General also highlighted the state crime lab backlog and the importance of getting the crime lab up to date.

The discussions also touched on the issue of more judges in area counties and internet crimes against children and what can be done to stop it.
